SIR ABDUR RAHIM

SIR ABDUR RAHIM

A legal luminary, Abdur Rahim started his career as an advocate in the Calcutta High Court in 1890 and then served the Madras High Court as a Judge, and for a time officiated as its Chief justice.  He was also a member of the Royal Commission on Public Services in India.  Outside the domain of law, he struggled hard for the betterment of Indians in the educational, social, cultural and political spheres of life.  He became a member of the Central Legislative Assembly in 1930 and in 1933, he was the Leader of the Opposition.  He rose to the Presidentship of the Central Legislative Assembly in 1935 and remained in that position till 1945.
