PANDIT RAVI SHANKAR SHUKLA

At the entrance to the Outer Lobby of the Lok Sabha, on the left side, is placed the 7-feet high bronze statue of Pandit Ravi Shankar Shukla.  He was a legal luminary, an outstanding freedom fighter, a veteran leader, an able administrator and an accomplished parliamentarian.  He was a committed democrat and a patriot who dedicated his life to the service of the nation.  He was a member of the Legislative Council of the Central Provinces and a Minister in the State.  Later, he was the Premier of the Central Provinces and Berar.  He was also a member of the Constituent Assembly and the first Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh.  A man of letters and a great lover of Hindi, Ravi Shankar Shukla's name is synonymous with the State of Madhya Pradesh, having built the infrastructure for the economic, political, social and cultural development of the State.

The statue, sculpted by Harish B. Talim, was unveiled by the then President of India, Dr. Shanker Dayal Sharma on 22 December 1995.

The statue was donated by the Pandit Ravi Shankar Shukla Samiti.
