Started career in 1958 as a Lecturer/Assistant Professor in the University of Allahabad; Taught History, Culture and Archaeology and also conducted archaeological explorations and excavations, evaluated material finds, brought out excavation reports and set up a museum in the Department of Ancient History, Culture and Archaeology, University of Allahabad.
Entered the Indian Administrative Service in 1964; held various jobs of field at Government level, requiring action as well as analysis on issues of diverse kinds relating to development and regulatory administration; Worked in the fields of human resource, training, information and broadcasting, education, water resources, regional planning, energy and Legislative/ Parliamentary work; Also prepared programmes and schemes for development of people and regions; Besides planning for development of the local/regional level, duties included evaluation of developmental programmes and redesigning/modification to achieve goals; Monitoring, evaluation and policy formulation have engaged his attention and time as an administrator and planner in these fields; In the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs functioned as a link between the various Ministries of the Union Government and the two Houses of Parliament involving management of time for the disposal of Government business; In addition, facilities, remuneration and other aspects of welfare of Members of Parliament are also part of the job respectively; Also conducted the election for the office of Vice-President of India in July-August, 1997. Presently Secretary-General of the Rajya Sabha.
Publications: Published several articles on General Administration and Indian History and Culture; Revised and enlarged the "Early History of India" by Prof. N.N. Ghosh (Indian Press, Allahabad) by adding the chapter on "Indian Culture and Civilisation and South-East Asia".
Travel Abroad: Widely travelled both inside and outside the country; Has visited Australia, China, Japan, Iraq, Kuwait, U.A.E., France, U.K., Italy, Brazil, Thailand, Pakistan, Philippines, U.S.A., Cambodia, Nepal in connection with official work including the World Cultural Heritage, SAARC meeting and the like.
