Sahu and late Shrimati Attar Sahu; born at Muzaffarpur, Bihar, November 15, 1934; educated at (i) Primary education in an Ashram at Champaran, Founded by Mahatma Gandhi, (ii) Secondary Education Zila School, Muzaffarpur, (iii) R.D.S. College, Muzaffarpur, (iv) Ranchi College, Ranchi and (v) S.K.J. Law College, Muzaffarpur, all affiliated to Bihar University; m. Shrimati Bimlesh Gupta, June 6, 1958; 3 daughters

Advocate, agriculturist and social worker; worked for Bhoodan Movement launched by Acharya Vinoba in Bihar; organised All India Students and Youth Conference at Ranchi (Bihar) to foster the idea of Bhoodan Movement, 1952-53 and served as Assistant Editor for Bhoodan Yagya (Daily Newspaper) published from Patna (Bihar), 1955-56; President, (i) Society for Clean Cities and Environment, Bihar (regd.) and (ii) Institute of Administrative Studies, Muzaffarpur; Chairman, (i) Bihar State Credit and Investment Corporation Limited, Patna, 1982, (ii) Committee on Petitions, Rajya Sabha, 1988--90 and (iii) House Committee, Rajya Sabha from October, 1991 to June 1994; Director, (i) Bihar State Financial Corporation, 1975-76 and (ii) India Tourism Development Corporation, 1981--83; Treasurer, Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee (I), 1985--1991; Member, (i) Executive Committee of Congress Parliamentary Party, 1986--88, (ii) General Purposes Committee, Rajya Sabha, 1988--90, 1991-92, (iii) Indian delegation to the United Nations General Assembly, 1991 and (iv) Committee on Energy; was Party Observer from 1984 to 1994 for the State of Andhra Pradesh, Goa, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Punjab, Haryana, Jammu & Kashmir, Delhi, Nagaland, Manipur, Assam, Meghalaya, Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh and Pradesh Returning Officer for Organisational elections for Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry and Andhra Pradesh; elected to the Rajya Sabha in April, 1984 and reelected in April, 1990.

Travels abroad: China, Hong Kong, Bangkok, Bulgaria, U.K., U.S.A., Venezuela, Germany, Mauritius, Canada and Surinam.

Special interest: Charkha spinning, upliftment of the poor, improvement of environment and travelling.

Favourite pastime and recreation: Reading and music.
