(Bihar); son of Shri Lala Ram Paswan and Shrimati Sonmati Devi; born : at Zafarabad Village, Post Fatuha, District Patna, Bihar, January 15, 1941; educated at (i) Marwari High School, Muzaffarpur, (ii) Ram Dayalu Singh Mahavidyalaya, Muzaffarpur and (iii) Langet Singh Mahavidyalaya, Bihar University, Muzaffarpur; married to : Shrimati Singhasini Devi, May 19, 1962; 1 son and 2 daughter
Was teacher in a High School in Patna City for two years; took active part in the movement led by Shri Jayprakash Narayan in 1974 and was jailed for a number of times during 1974--75 for taking active part in the said movement; resigned from the membership of the Legislative Assembly for taking part in the movement led by Shri Jayprakash Narayan and was also imprisoned for 19 months during emergency; President, Bihar Pradesh B.J.P. Anusuchit Jati Morcha; Secretary, Bihar Pradesh Bharatiya Janata Party from 1980 to 1993; Member, (i) Legislative Assembly of Bihar in 1972 and re-elected in 1977, (ii) Committee on Labour and Welfare and (iii) Committee on the Welfare of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes; was Welfare Minister, Government of Bihar; elected to the Rajya Sabha in April, 1990.
