(Maharashtra); son of Shri Venkatesh Devidas Mahajan and Shrimati Prabhavati; born : at Mahboobnagar, Andhra Pradesh, October 30, 1949; educated at (i) Yogeshwari Vidyalaya and Mahavidyalaya, Ambajogal District Bhir, Maharashtra, (ii) Ranade Institute for Journalism, Pune and (iii) Marathwada and Pune Universities- -appeared in the examinations through Nasik Road Central Prison during emergency; married to : Shrimati Rekha, March 11, 1972; 1 son and 1 daughter

Social worker; worked as Teacher in Kholeshwar Vidyalaya, 1971--74; was imprisoned in Nasik Road Central Prison during Emergency, 1975--77; President, Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha since 1986 (a youth wing of Bharatiya Janata Party); Chairman, Committee on Transport and Tourism; General Secretary, (i) Janata Party, Maharashtra State, 1978--80, (ii) Bharatiya Janata Party, Maharashtra State, 1980--83 and (iii) All India BJP since 1993; Secretary, Bharatiya Janata Party, 1983--86; Sub-Editor, Tarun Bharat, Pune, Maharashtra, 197(}71; Member, (i) Rashtriya Swayam Sewak Sangh since childhood, (ii) Committee on Rules, Rajya Sabha, 1986-87, and (iii) General Purposes Committee; elected to the Rajya Sabha in July, 1986, and re-elected in July, 1992.

Travels abroad: U.K., U.S.A., France, Bangladesh and Switzerland.
