GOHAIN, SHRI BHADRESWAR:

B.A. (Hons.), M.A., LL.B.; A.G.P. (Assam); son of Shri Ganeshwar Buragohain and Shrimati Janki Buragohain; born : at Pehipukhuri, March 1, 1947; educated at (i) Hatipukhuri and Sepekhati High School, (ii) Tinsukia College, Guwahati University and (iii) Law College, Guwahati University; married to : Shrimati Chandra Praba Buragohain, January 20, 1990.

Advocate; joined Sibsagar Bar, 1972; was President, Charaideo Bar Association Sonari; was Lecturer, Gorgaon College Simluguri for a short period; best sportsman of the years 1967-68 and 1968-69; founder General Secretary, Asom Jatiyatabadi Dal Sibsagar District, a regional political Party of Assam and later on became its Secretary; Chairman, (i) Privileges Committee and (ii) Subordinate Legislation Committee, Assam Legislative Assembly; Deputy Speaker, Assam Legislative Assembly, April, 1986 to March, 1990; was Secretary, Major Games, Guwahati University Law College; actively associated with the Language Movement, Refinery Movement, Foreigners Movement and other popular Movements mainly in Assam; Attended, (i) Commonwealth Parliamentary Seminar in London in 1987 and (ii) Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference in Barbodos in West Indies, in 1989; was Member, (i) Assam Legislative Assembly from April 1985 to March 1990, (ii) Consultative Committee of the Ministries of Agriculture, Tourism, Industry, N.F.R. Railway and Joint Parliamentary Committee for Environment and Forest; Member, (i) Consultative Committee of the Ministry of Industry, (ii) Committee on Transport and Tourism and (iii) Committee on Rules, Rajya Sabha; elected to the Rajya Sabha in April, 1990.

Travels abroad: U.A.E., Nepal, U.K., U.S.A., Italy, France, Switzerland, Egypt, Greece, Denmark, Canada, Barbodos, Japan, Hong Kong, Thailand, Philippines and China.

Publications: Contributed various articles in the local dailies and periodicals published in Assam.

Special interest: Upliftment of the rural poor and youth organisation.

Favourite pastime and recreation: Reading and sports.
