B.Com., F.C.A.; Congress (I) (Maharashtra); son of Shri Mathurdas Desai and Shrimati Maniben; born : at Dahod, Distt. Panchmahal (Gujarat), February 8, 1926; educated at (i) New High School, Dahod and (ii) College of Commerce, Baroda; married to : Shrimati Savitri Desai; 2 son and 2 daughter

Chartered Accountant; was jailed during 1942 'Quit India' Movement; Previously associated with Congress (R); Vice-President, Maharashtra Pradesh Congress (I) Committee; was elected Vice-Chairman of the Committee on Political Questions. Disarmament and Security of the Inter Parliamentary Union; General Secretary, (i) Bandra Mandal Congress Committee, 1956--61, (ii) District Congress Committee, 1962--68, (iii) Maharashtra Pradesh Congress (I) Committee, 1979--83 and (iv) Civil Defence Committee for Bandra, Khar. Santacruz in 1962 at the time of Chinese aggression; Chairman, (i) Committee on Government Assurances, Rajya Sabha, July, 1990 to October 9, 1991 and (ii) Committee on Subordinate Legislation, Rajya Sabha, October 9, 1991 to November 15, 1992; Convener, (i) Resources Mobilization Committee for Housing Board, (ii) Milk Price Fixation Committee and (iii) G.T. Hospital Advisory Committee, etc.; Member, (i) All India Congress Committee, (ii) Maharashtra Legislative Assembly, 1972--78.
