DAS, SHRI BASANT KUMAR:

High School; Rashtriya Janata Dal (Orissa); son of Shri V. Satrughna Das and Shrimati Padmavati; born : at Bhawanipatna, Orissa, April 20, 1940; married to : Shrimati Roma Das, June, 1965; 3 son and 2 daughter

Businessman; joined Indian Navy in 1956 and during the term of his service participated in, (i) Goa operations, 1961 and (ii) Pakistan operations. 1965; joined politics after getting released from Navy after 10 years service; was Secretary, Praja Socialist Party and subsequently President, Janata Party and Janata Dal in Kalahandi District; involved Municipal affairs; Chairman, Bhawanipatna Municipality, 1984--90; Member, Committee on Commerce; elected to the Rajya Sabha in April, 1990.

Clubs: Vice-President, Distt. Athletic Association, Kalahandi, Orissa.

Travels abroad: East African Countries, Madagascar, Sri Lanka, Aden and Seycheles.

Favourite Pastime and recreation: Sports, reading, current affairs.
