CHAUDHARY HARMOHAN SINGH:
Middle High School; Janata Dal (S) (Uttar Pradesh); son of late Chaudhury Dhani Ram Singh Yadav; born : at Village Meharban Singh Ka Purva, Post Mardanpur (Kanpur), October 18, 1921; married to : Shrimati Gaya Kumari; S son and 1 daughter
Political and Social Worker; struggled for the cause of farmers and labourers; keenly interested in social work; participated in Kisan movements and was imprisoned several times in connection thereto, his efforts could make payment of compensation amounting to Rs. two crores and fifty-six lakhs to the farmers of village Dabouli, Gujaini and Barra; staunch supporter of Indian culture and Hindi language; actively participated in "Quit English Movement" and was imprisoned for one month; despite heavy involvement in political life he has been patronising a number of social organisations like Kailash Vidhyalok and Samadha Ashram etc.; awarded "Shaurya Chakra" by the President in 1991; Village Pradhan (1952--59); Chairman, (i) Interim District Council of the Kanpur Municipal Corporation (1959--68), (ii) Assurance Committee of Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council for two terms, (iii) Zila Sahkari Bank and (iv) All India Yadav Mahasabha; Deputy Chairman, (i) Uttar Pradesh Bhoomi Vikas Bank and (ii) Lok Dal, Uttar Pradesh; Member, (i) Kanpur Municipal Corporation, 1959 and 1968, (ii) Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council, 1970--76 and 1982--90, (iii) Raj Bhasha Samiti of Government of India, (iv) U.P. Janata Dal Parliamentary Board, (v) National Council of Janata Dal and (vi) Committee on Urban and Rural Development; visited Malaysia, Tokyo, Manila, Hong Kong, Bangkok etc. while participating in Government-sponsored visits to take an account of farming life in those countries; elected to the Rajya Sabha in April, 1990.
