CHANPURIA, SHRI SHIVPRASAD:


B.J.P. (Madhya Pradesh); son of Pt. Chhote Lal Chanpuria; born : at Village Baghraji, District Jabalpur, March 1, 1917; educated at Govt. High School, Damoh; married to : Shrimati Tarabai (since deceased), June 1938; 1 son and 2 daughter

Agriculturist; was associated with Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose in 1939, Jayaprakash Narain and Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia; participated in the individual satyagraha movement by Mahatma Gandhi in 1941 and 'Quit India Movement in 1942'; worked while remaining underground; was arrested on September 7, 1942 and detained in Central Jail, Jabalpur till November 13, 1943; led Kisan Movement in 1957; was imprisoned for six months in 1945; organised 80 youths on the pattern of Indian National Army with the objective of participating in the war of Independence; organised the Adivasis and participated in the struggle against Imlai State in 1946; separated from Congress after the Congress Socialist Party severed its relations with Congress; was arrested during Emergency, 1975--77; President, Madhya Pradesh unit of Bhartiya Janata Party, 1985; was Member, (i) Forward Bloc of Netaji, (ii) Samyukta Socialist Party under late Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia, 1955--1966, (iii) Madhya Pradesh Provincial Executive Committee in 1948, (iv) Mahakoshal Provincial Congress Committee in 1945, (v) Member of P.C.C. pre-Independence and (vi) Bhartiya Janata Party since its inception; was leader of the Samyukta Socialist Legislature Party; Member, Committee on Urban and Rural Development; Revenue and Agriculture Minister in Madhya Pradesh State Cabinet in 1980; elected to the Rajya Sabha in April, 1990.
