Agriculturist and Political and Social Worker; worked for farmers and the downtrodden people; keenly interested in social work; awarded `Shaurya Chakra' by the President of India in 1991; Village Pradhan,1952-59; Chairman, Assurance Committee of Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council for two terms; Member, (i) Kanpur Municipal Corporation, 1959-68, (ii) Legislative Council, Uttar Pradesh, 1970-82 and 1984-90, (iii) Sansdiya Raj Bhasha Samiti, Government of India, 1991-96, (iv) Committee on Human Resource Development and (v) Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Defence; elected to the Rajya Sabha in April, 1990; nominated to the Rajya Sabha in August, 1997.
