Teacher; was Member, (i) Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Defence, (ii) Committee on Government Assurances, 1994-96, (iii) Committee on Transport and Tourism, 1993-96, and (iv) Committee on Rules; Member, (i) Assam Pradesh Congress Party, (ii) Committee on Petitions, (iii) Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Industry and (iv) Committee on Transport and Tourism;

elected to the Rajya Sabha in September, 1991 and re-elected in April, 1996.

Travels abroad : U.K., China, Thailand and Nepal.

Special interest : Literacy among women folk, child labour, teaching and love for animals.

Favourite pastime and recreation : Reading, fine arts, travelling, tourism and environment.
