Agriculturist; worked for the welfare of the weaker sections and communal harmony; previously associated with the CPI and the Indian National Congress; Sarpanch of Chittapur village, 1957-64; President, (i) Panchayat Samithi, Dubbak, 1964-70, (ii) Agriculture Market Committee, Siddipet, 1969-72 and (iii) District Cooperative Bank, Medak, 1977 and 1978; Chairman, Andhra Pradesh Mineral Development Corporation; Member, (i) Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly, 1972-78, (ii) Committee on Railways, (iii) Ethics Committee and (iv) Consultative Committee for the Ministry of External Affairs;elected to the Rajya Sabha in April, 1996.

Travels abroad : U.S.S.R, U.K., France, Finland and Italy.

Special interest : Upliftment of the rural and urban poor; study of the culture and traditions of people belonging to all parts of India.
