Trader and Industrialist; Chairman, Municipality, Rourkela, 1985-90; Member, Legislative Assembly, Orissa, 1985-90 and 1990-95; Cabinet Minister of Industries, Government of Orissa, 1990-95; was (i) Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) of the Ministry of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, June, 1996 and (ii) Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) of the Ministry of Food Processing Industries, resigned from Council of Ministers in December, 1997 after joining a new regional party BJD; presently Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) of the Ministry of Coal; elected to the Rajya Sabha in April, 1996.
