Politician and Social Worker; one of the first delegates to the Government of Assam to demand a separate Autonomous District Council for the Lakhers; represented the Lakhers to the Pataskar Commission at Aizawl in 1966; President, Lakher District Congress (I) Committee, 1977-84; Deputy Leader, Congress Legislature Party in Mizoram, 1978-84; Deputy Leader, Mizoram Legislature Party, 1972-77; elected Speaker, Mizoram Legislative Assembly unopposed, January 30, 1989 to July 1, 1990; Secretary, Mizoram Pradesh Congress(I) Committee, 1986-89; was Member, (i) Rules Committee, Rajya Sabha, 1991-92, (ii) Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Surface Transport, (iii) Jury Member, National Citizen's Award, 1991, 1992 and 1993, (iv) Court, North-Eastern Hill University, (v) Committee on Defence, 1993-96, (vi) Committee on the Welfare of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, 1994-96, (vii) erstwhile Pawi Lakher Regional Council and (viii) Mizoram Legislative Assembly, 1972, 1977, 1979, 1984, 1987 and 1989; Member, (i) Committee on Subordinate Legislation, (ii) Committee on Petroleum and Chemicals, 1996-97,(iii) Committee on Labour and Welfare, (iv) Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Labour and (v) Executive Committee, Congress (I) Parliamentary Party, elected in September, 1991, re-elected in May, 1994 and again in 1996; Minister of State, Mizoram Government, holding portfolios of Public Works Department, Public Health, Engineering, Labour, Veterinary, Animal Husbandry, Printing and Stationery; an elder of Independent Church of Maraland; attended (i) Presiding Officers' Conference held at several places in India and (ii) Commonwealth Parliamentary Association Conference in 1989 at Barbados; elected to the Rajya Sabha in July, 1990 and re-elected in July, 1996.
