Agriculturist; Councillor, Udupi Municipality, 1972-76; Member, (i) Lok Sabha, 1980-84, 1985-89, 1989-91, 1991-95 and 1996-98, (li) Committee on Human Resource Development and (iii) Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Human Resource Development; elected to the Rajya Sabha in April, 1998.

Travels abroad : Yugoslavia and erstwhile FSSR.

Accomplishment in arts and science : Research in the field of Agriculture and Agriculture Engineering, won Agriculture Syndicate Foundation first prize for raising produce in paddy "IR-8'.
