(Andhra Pradesh); s. of Shri Veeraraghavayya and Shrimati Saraswathamma ; b. at Digavalli, District Krishna (A.P.), August 10, 1926; ed. at, (i) Nuzvid High School, District Krishna, (ii) Hindu College, Machilipatnam, (iii) A.C.College, Guntur, (iv) S.R.R.College,Vijayawada and (v) Bangabasi College, Calcutta; m. Shrimati Lakshmi, May, 1945.

Political Worker; joined CPI in 1945 as a whole time party worker; carried underground activities for three years and ten months since February 1948; participated in several agitations for distribution of land to the poor and was jailed; President/Secretary, Visalandhra Vighana Samithi (Visalandhra Telugu Daily) for 15 years ; Vice-President, International Union of Students, 1953; General-Secretary, (i) All India Students' Federation, 1953 and (ii) Chandra Rajeswara Rao Foundation for Social Progress; Secretary,(i) Nuzvid Taluk Council and Krishna District Council of CPI for about 16 years, and (ii) A.P. State Council of CPI, 1992-97; National Secretary of CPI since September, 1997; Member , Committee on Urban and Rural Development ; elected to the Rajya Sabha in April,1998.

Travels abroad: Finland,erstwhile U.S.S.R., Mangolia and China.
