Advocate; Social and Political Worker; actively participated in the students movement and was arrested under D.I.R. in 1964 and on several occasions detained in P.S. and Jails on political grounds; associated with the movements of Western Orissa; President, District Janata Dal; General Secretary, Pachima Orissa Sanskritika Parishad, Sambalpur; Honorary General Secretary, District Athletic Association, Sambalpur; secured first, second and third places in long distance running events held from 1962 to 1964 in the State Sports Championship and Utkal University Sports Meets; Member, (i) State Committee of J.D. (Orissa), (ii) Governing Body, V.S.S. Medical College, Burla, (iii) Orissa Olympic Association and Council of Sports, (iv) Committee on Industry, 1994-96, (v) Committee on Labour and Welfare, (vi) Committee on Rules and (vii) Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare,1996-97; elected to the Rajya Sabha in April, 1994.
