Whole time Political Activist; has been associated with relief activities in the face of natural calamities, literacy and popular science movements; was General Secretary of Students' Federation of India from December, 1986 to January, 1993; was Member, Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Commerce; Member, (i) Committee on Urban and Rural Development, (ii) Committee on Papers Laid on the Table and (iii) Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Communications; elected to the Rajya Sabha in April, 1994.

Travels abroad: U.S.S.R., G.D.R., Czechoslovakia, Poland, Cuba, D.P.R. Korea, Mongolia, Thailand, Chile, Portugal, Trinidad and Tobago, Zimbabwe, Namibia and Vietnam.

Publications: Editor of `Students Struggle' from January, 1987 to March, 1989.

Special interest: Reading and writing, areas of interest being history, economics, politics, rural society and economy.

Favourite pastime and recreation: Gardening and listening to music.
